All 'Tapped' Out
Why do we buy bottled water? Well it turns out that many, if not most, of us think it's better than tap water. British researchers asked gym-goers why they bought the bottled stuff and that was their answer.
The truth is bottled water most often is nothing more than filtered tap water. Oh yes, the filtering does make it kinda better and healthier but really for their price. The stuff is often more expensive than gasoline (and we all know what a great value that is these days.)
But wait, it gets worse. About 25 percent of bottled water comes from municipal water supplies, making it essentially repackaged tap water. Studies have also found that, like tap water, bottled varieties sometimes contain chemical and bacterial contaminants. So what's the big deal.
Maybe convenience. You don't have to suck up to a water fountain (Lord knows who has been lipping that thing). You don't have to carry a glass. You have a plastic (a whole different issue) unbreakable (sort of) container that you can throw away (or recycle). That may be the real attractive feature to bottled water. Bottoms up.
